What is an e-invoice in the UAE?

Last updated

It is invoice data in a structured format, issued and exchanged electronically between supplier and buyer and reported to the Federal Tax Authority. The Ministry of Finance states that PDF, Word, image, scanned and emailed invoices are not e-invoices. The UAE uses the PINT AE standard, exchanged through accredited service providers.

How an e-invoice moves

The UAE uses a five-corner model. The supplier sends invoice data to its accredited service provider, which validates it and sends it to the buyer's provider. The supplier's provider also reports a tax data document to the FTA. The buyer's provider validates the invoice, delivers it to the buyer and reports it too, and status messages flow back to the supplier.

What contractors need

An accredited service provider, invoice data that meets the mandatory field requirements published by the Ministry, and a process to handle invoices the buyer's provider rejects. A progress invoice built from a certificate still needs every field the standard requires.

How SupaJack Construct fits

SupaJack Construct does not transmit e-invoices itself. It stores the company's Peppol endpoint ID, and its setup check flags a company with none on file. The invoices it produces are passed to the company's accredited service provider, which handles transmission and reporting.

Worked example

A subcontractor emails a main contractor a PDF progress invoice in February 2027. If the subcontractor is within the system by then, the PDF is not an e-invoice. The same invoice must go through its accredited service provider as PINT AE data to count.
